Introducing The Perpetual Playlist Experiment
To begin, the Perpetual Playlist will feature a new piece of Solo Piano music every day for a month arranged to tell a story.
I've decided to start a new experiment called The Perpetual Playlist. To begin, the Perpetual Playlist will feature a new piece of Solo Piano music every day for a month arranged to tell a story. These will be the crown jewels of my Solo Piano collection and I'll work hard to build the narrative into something cohesive. I'll be coy about the story and encourage you all to divine your own narrative from the sequence as it progresses. I'll drop bits and pieces throughout the posts to set the scene, at least.
The recommendations will come in the form of the album art (if it exists) and links to either Amazon.com's or iTunes digital versions. Sorry, no freebee downloads.
Participation in the Experiment is Encouraged!
If enough people participate by submitting their own narratives of the experiment, I'll feature the best narrative (selected at my sole, bias discretion) side-by-side with mine in a follow-up post and award an iTunes or Amazon.com gift certificate (winner's choice) in the amount of $15. You can send your narratives to me via comments or email. Click the "contact" link in the sidebar to email me. Feel free to submit them at any point during the month.
What happens after March?
Following the end of March, the pace will slow down but continue on in perpetuity. Or until I run out of music. In which case the experiment will be renamed The (Nearly) Perpetual Playlist and become significantly less compelling.
In April, it will expand into the wider realm of the Classical genre. In May, we'll get to Soundtracks (i.e. film scores). Who knows what we'll do after that. Each month will feature a theme and attempt to build a narrative.
Hey, is this some kind of scam to get me to buy stuff?
Yes. In the interest of full-disclosure, if you end up purchasing a song after clicking on the link from the recommendation, I get a shiny nickel. Please don't be jealous of my clever money-making schemes. If you'd prefer to mail me the nickels out of sheer gratitude for having exponentially expanded your musical horizons and generally improved your mental well-being, I'll be equally pleased. It's your call.
On the up-side, you'll be the proud new owner of an incredible playlist of (legitimately acquired) world-class pieces of Solo Piano music that you can use to impress family and friends. And that's priceless.
Shameless promotion...
To increase the potential pool of players (and the likelihood of an actual prize being awarded), please feel free to do your part to promote this experiment via whatever Social Media engine you prefer.
