iPod + iTunes: 38.21 Days of Pleasure

Total time spent listening to music on iPod or iTunes: 3301649 seconds

I realized the other day that the multiplication of the song length and play count fields in iTunes and its subsequent summation would yield the total amount of time I've spent listening to my iPod + iTunes since I started using it last November. Some numbers for you:

  • Total time spent listening to music on iPod or iTunes: 3301649 seconds
    • Total Time In Minutes: 55027.48
    • Total Time In Hours: 917.12
    • Total Time In Days: 38.21
  • iPod + iTunesPercentage of Total Time since November 17, 2003 spent listening to music via iPod or iTunes (including time asleep): ~16%
  • Percentage of Time Awake since November 17, 2003 spent listening to music via iPod or iTunes (8 hour sleep average): ~24%
  • Number of Songs currently in my Music Library: 2577
  • Number of top rated songs (defined as 4 or 5 stars): 1200
  • Number of top rated Rock Songs: 454
    • Number of Rock Sub-Genres: 8
    • Number of top rated Radiohead Songs: 41
  • Number of top rated Classical Songs: 339
    • Number of Classical Sub-Genres: 7
    • Number of top rated "Classical: Piano" Songs: 214

  • Number of top rated Soundtrack Songs: 123
  • Number of people who may actually care about all of these numbers: 3

And it's all thanks to the simplicity and utility that is iPod + iTunes. I listen to my music library in my car, on my computer, in my bedroom, at work, on walks in the park, on full audio receivers. In short, everywhere I go.

Thank you Apple. These numbers will only grow.

Um, methinks that the iPod reports not back unto iTunes. It's way possible that you've listened more than you think ;)

It does! It does! Although I consider the accuracty of my numbers "tentative" at best.

Friend, it sounds as if you've got an addiction. You sound like a heroine addict whispering sweet nothings into her pimp's ear: "Thank you Apple. These numbers will only grow." Haha!
