Fiction 59: Missed

I discovered I had missed it completely. The realization stung.

Last year's Fiction 59 contest came and went with three wee entries not so much as acknowledged by the powers-that-be in the Chico News & Review. A passing, tepid thought occurred to me a few weeks ago. Wasn't the Fiction 59 contest around this time last year? I thought surely it was. There were a few fruitless attempts to search the Chico News & Review website for contest announcements (a worthless search engine on that site, worthless), and various Googlings only to discover that doodlemonger.com is the top search result for "Fiction 59". Ha! Sweet recompense. However, after much muted gloating, I wasn't any closer to determining when the contest may be, so I gave up. Lord knows I could have picked up an actual print issue of the Chico News & Review, but I didn't.

It wasn't until I saw the June 17th issue of the Chico News & Review that I discovered I had missed it completely. The realization stung.

And so, in spiteful resolution, I've decided to write them anyway, this year's entries, and more than three this time. The same rules apply. Each entry will be fifty-nine words. Exactly. So look for them over the coming week.
