And yet, to hear the voice, and to see the human being, makes him more real, more accessible.

It is always somewhat disarming to provide substance to perceptions. Michael Barrish, the author of one of my favorite sites, has recently posted a video to his website in which he discusses the philosophical concept of the The Experience Machine in his bathrobe while making oatmeal.

This action, for me, closes some of the distance created by my perception of Michael Barrish as a great writer; someone who can capture the unique, and present the grand and the granular with an evenhanded and sometimes brutal minimalism that bears a great deal of significance. For this, I read his site daily. When he has nothing new I peruse the old (he's been at it for quite some time.)

And yet, to hear the voice, and to see the human being, makes him more real, more accessible. This of course coming on the heels of my recent desire to buy a video camera to capture some of my youth for some future family and/or friends to watch and enjoy. I may not dance in my bathrobe while discussing philosophical excercises, but I'm certain I will manage to capture something worth experiencing a second time. And a third. Perhaps even a fourth.

In the meantime, watch Michael dance. It's quite enjoyable.
